This event teaches us about the significance of each structure, the stories they hold, and the unique architectural features that make them stand out. Architectural historian Steve Baltsas argues that Newburgh has the most ironwork between New York City and Albany.
Scan-a-thon: Digitize your Archive
Sunday, October 6th from 10am-3pm at 189 Montgomery Street Newburgh NY
This free event invites participants to bring hard-copy images of Greater Newburgh to be digitized at no charge. Participants will leave with access to high-res digital files and their original materials.
Reservations for scanning are required. Otherwise to observe demonstrations, you can just show up.

As you stroll through these historic neighborhoods, you’ll learn from students from YouthBuild and NFA's Architectural program about the significance of each structure, the stories they hold, and the unique architectural features that make them stand out. Highlights of the tour include pointing out a variety of architectural styles, from Victorian to Federalist and unique building details. Learn the historical context of the area and its impact on the community.

Restoring old doors may seem daunting but often it's a very doable DIY project once you know how. This workshop is an introduction to what to consider, materials to use and the basic steps.

Build Your Block! Lego Printmaking

Join Newburgh Creates for a super fun workshop in which children and adults repurpose LEGO® bricks as a printmaking medium on specially designed presses. Then together, build a collective mural to hang in the public realm.

Newburgh adopted the Good Cause Eviction Law Summer 2024. This legislation was a response to growing concerns about housing stability and aimed to provide greater protections for tenants against unjust evictions. An upcoming information session will address the new legislation offering a balanced overview for both tenants and landlords.

In 2008, The City Council of the City of Newburgh found that the rehabilitation and renovation work on historic properties located in historic districts tends to be more expensive than similar work on other properties because of the nature of the work and the cost of materials that may be required. The purpose and intent of the 444A Tax Abatement is to provide a property tax incentive to encourage investment in and the rehabilitation of historic properties, and to preserve the historic character of real property located within the City of Newburgh.

That’s why CPC created the ACCESS Incubator to empower emerging developers to succeed. This mini session lead by Lawrence Hammond and Wilhelmena of Community Preservation Corporation, will give a preview of the program and what it means to become a real estate developer.

Lead Abatement & Lime Mortar Repointing Demonstration
Sunday October 8 from 1-3pm at the (New)burgh Porch, 15 S. Johnston Street. Provided by our beloved Hudson Valley House Parts store, join us for a free demonstration of how to safely abate lead paint on windows and also an introduction to lime mortar repointing. The demonstration will provide an introduction to the skills to preserve and restore Newburgh’s historic buildings.
Minecraft x Urban Archive: Digging for Urban Renewal

Minecraft and Urban Archive are vastly different technological platforms but they creatively allow the public to access and learn about City of Newburgh’s history.
