It all begins with an idea.

In 2022, The Fullerton was focused on planning programs that continue to build social infrastructure in Newburgh, however, at the same time we were able to do a lot of community programming. Here is a snap shot of some of the year’s highlights.

With a volunteer board, we raised an income of $96,475

97% of our funding directly supports programs. Only 3% of our budget goes to operating expenses.

15 Awesome Newburgh grants totaling $ 12,000 in support of projects that make Newburgh Awesome. Welcomed 4 new Awesome Newburgh trustees too.

50 amazing applications submitted for the Building Shells: Building Community open call. 1 winner chosen. Details to be announced soon.

4 CityMaking salon discussions - a new program that featured local authors including Steven Higashide, Melissa Everett, Dr. Mindy Fullilove, and Kavita Das. Event partners include

3 year advocacy campaign finally resulted in the rescinding of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge curfew that was set on the pedestrian-bike pathway

1 road trip to Syracuse to present at the New York Statewide Preservation Conference with Newburgh’s Stabilization Coordinator Nick Edward and Albany’s Neighborhood Stabilization Coordinator Sam Wells.

9 trees planted with neighbors on Benkard Street. ​​12 trees planned for planting near elementary schools along North Street Corridor.

4 new architectural walking tours featuring the stories of over 50 buildings on Dubois, Williams, Lutheran, and Johnston Streets. Available now on Urban Archive.

1 Virtual Lecture to the Municipal Art Society for over 25 people who were curious to learn about Newburgh.

174 storefronts along 12 blocks of Lower Broadway studied as part of the 30 page Broadway Analysis report. 3 key recommendations for how to support Broadway businesses in the future.

1 new historic marker at the site of Highland Gardens, the 11-acre botanic nursery and home of horticulturist, author, and Newburgh native Andrew Jackson Downing. 28 sites connected to Downing mapped for you to visit. 3 year anniversary of hosting Critical Mass Bike Rides each last Friday of the Month.

50 Frederick Douglass maps distributed in Newburgh.

1 pilot program launched to address chronic sanitation issues on Broadway with Keep Newburgh Beautiful, Melanin Unchained, Orange County Department of Health and other stakeholders.

5 free art events in Downing Park organized by Chapman Steamer Arts. (The Fullerton served as the fiscal sponsor)

1 Hudson River Valley Greenway Grant to perform an engineering analysis for potential bike infrastructure on our two main street corridors in coordination with the City of Newburgh.

3 MakerBoards still in use by Safe Harbors on the Hudson and the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy.

2 cartons of Bjorn Corn, 3 cases of Graft Cider and 2 cases Newburgh Brewing Beer donated for the CityMaking salon discussions. A super shout out to these sponsors – we loved every bite and sip of it!

1 contribution to the Preservation Action Foundation’s auction of a history saturated package that celebrates Newburgh.
