The Ritz Theatre Tour with Safe Harbors of the Hudson
Archtober Newburgh is an annual festival of 25+ free events that celebrates the city's rich architectural heritage, connects people to resources and promotes local initiatives in the community.
October 3-5, 2025
Join Safe Harbor of the Hudson for a tour of its historic Ritz Theater. Originally built in 1913, this venue once hosted luminaries such as Ella Fitzgerald, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Red Skelton, and a young Frank Sinatra, among others. Perhaps most famously, Lucille Ball made her debut on the Ritz stage in a sketch comedy with Desi Arnaz that went on to become “I Love Lucy,” earning the Ritz the honor of being the birthplace of an iconic piece of American entertainment history. Following conversion into a cineplex in the latter half of the 20th century, when its Stagehouse was sealed up and effectively entombed within the building, the Ritz Theater is now undergoing new construction to transform into a flexible performance and gathering space designed to host performances, film production, conferences, community events, and private rentals. Walk through and see the transformation and revival of this historic beauty in the heart of downtown Newburgh.
