Restore & Rehab Historic Building: Best Practices Workshop
Archtober Newburgh is an annual festival of 25+ free events that celebrates the city's rich architectural heritage, connects people to resources and promotes local initiatives in the community.
For anyone daunted by making changes to their historic property, this workshop guides property owners on how to restore and rehabilitate their buildings. Local architects will walk you through ARC-approved projects, highlighting the most common applications that come before the ARC, including window and door replacement, roof replacement, and front porch repair and restoration.
Through a series of worksheets detailing best practices in historic renovation and preservation, they will help you navigate the ARC Certificate of Appropriateness process. The worksheets illustrate the ARC requirements and provide a step-by-step process detailing tools for illustrating changes, answering questions about repair-in-kind, and incorporating new materials into your historic project, and provide a directory of contractors and craftspeople who have the skill sets needed to take good care of your historic building.
For a hands-on experience, attend the workshops hosted by Hudson Valley House Parts and Researching Your House at the Newburgh Historical Society.
The worksheet will be available in English and Spanish. This project is made possible by the John E. Streb Fund for New York of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for their support
