Remix Architecture: A Hands-on Zine Lab with Historical Society of Newburgh
Archtober Newburgh is an annual festival of 25+ free events that celebrates the city's rich architectural heritage, connects people to resources and promotes local initiatives in the community.
A community workshop inviting participants to explore architectural imagery as a medium for creative storytelling and collective reflection. Using the accessible, DIY format of zines, the project brings together people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with the built environment, share personal experiences of places, and reimagine their surroundings.
This session will focus on a rich variety of architectural imagery, found images, personal photographs, imagined spaces, and, most notably, rarely seen materials from the Newburgh Historical Society’s recently digitized archive. These historic photographs and documents, many of which have never been publicly accessible, offer a unique lens into the region’s architectural heritage. Participants will work directly with these visual assets, developing visual narratives and assembling zines through collage, drawing, and simple binding techniques.
Open to all ages and skill levels, the workshop provides all materials free of charge. Each participant will leave with at least one completed zine, and selected works will be compiled into a collective publication to be distributed locally and shared online.
